Manila
The Heart of the Philippines
Why Visit Manila?
Manila is the vibrant, chaotic, endlessly fascinating heart of the Philippines. A sprawling metropolis of 1.8 million souls, it is simultaneously one of the world's most densely populated cities and home to some of Asia's finest museums, colonial architecture and street food scenes. The Intramuros walled city speaks to Manila's Spanish colonial past, while the gleaming towers of Makati and BGC represent its ultra-modern present.
Manileños — as Manila's residents are called — are known for their resilience, humor and warmth. You'll find it in the packed jeepneys, the all-night karaoke bars, the food stalls packed shoulder-to-shoulder in Quiapo, and the generous spirit that makes Manila so magnetic to visitors.
